5 Ways to Reconnect after Disconnecting
In this digital age, most of us are bombarded by constant distractions via texts, emails, snapchats, Facebook, Twitter….the list goes on! Many are finding solace by taking a device sabbatical – unplugging from the virtual world, and connecting back to the physical world. Choosing to reconnect with ourselves, others, and the world around us can have its challenges. Here are a few helpful ideas to begin your “reconnection” to yourself!
Help others. Take some supplies to the less fortunate. Donate your time to serve someone else. Serving others humbles us. It fills our hearts with warmth. It reminds us of our connectedness to one another and to the larger picture.
Remember your playful side. What are some hobbies that you once enjoyed? Is there a sport that you’ve always wanted to try, but have never taken the step? Becoming playful is about finding the activities that take us beyond ourselves to a place where true joy and happiness can be found.
Have an art attack! Lay back, and enjoy some tunes. Go to a museum. Maybe a play. Connecting to our artistic side helps transcend what words can fail to do. Art nourishes our spirit as we get lost in wonder and awe.
Explore nature. There’s a certain amount of contemplation and meditation that happens when you soak in the great outdoors. Being in nature feeds our senses and can help recharge our energy levels during times of discouragement or exhaustion – replacing them with peace and serenity.
Getting reconnected with ourselves is a great first step to increased self-esteem. It takes time & practice. You might need to start small by scheduling yourself into your daytimer before it takes root as a regular occurrence.
